WHEREAS, since the earliest days of civilization, people have depended on surveyors to resolve questions of land boundaries and provide the framework for building infrastructure; and

WHEREAS, many of our nation’s founding fathers were surveyors for fellow colonists, including Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson; and

WHEREAS, surveyors determine essential measurements relative position of points or physical and cultural details above, on, or beneath the surface of the Earth; and

WHEREAS,surveyors continue to play a vital role in construction projects, in how land is shaped and where to properly build structures; and

WHEREAS, the surveying profession continues to evolve with new technology, challenges and methods of understanding the land through this science; and

WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina is proud to recognize the dedicated men and women who make up this profession;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, PAT McCRORY, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim March 18-24, 2013, as “NORTH CAROLINA SURVEYORS WEEK” in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this twenty-eighth day of February in the year of our Lord two thousand and thirteen, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-seventh.
